Announcing: LLVM 2.8 Release Candidate 2 Tagging Tonight

Important Announcement

Release testing of Release Candidate 1 is finished. I’ll be tagging Release Candidate 2 tonight. If there are any fixes you want in, please get them approved as soon as possible.

After this tag, the only patches that will be accepted will be those that fix regressions from 2.7

Forgot to include cfe-dev in this email.

Are there any tarballs for the release candidates available? Tanya used
to make these available for previous releases, but I haven't been able
to find any for testing 2.8.

I created tags instead of tarballs. You can use the llvm/utils/release/test-release.sh script to download and build the releases.

I realize after sending this out that I'm a bit early announcing the tagging of RC2. Therefore there is still time to add patches to the 2.8 release branch before the RC2 tagging.

My apologies for the mix-up.

Hi Bill,

I created tags instead of tarballs. You can use the llvm/utils/release/test-release.sh script to download and build the releases.

I think it is important to provide binaries for the release candidates and have
people test them. This catches problems such as the binary being linked with
libffi because the person who did the build has libffi installed, making the
binaries unusable for many users (most of whom do not have libffi installed).
This particular example actually happened during a past release.

Ciao,

Duncan.

Was there an announcement about the rc1 tag that I missed?

Best regards,
