Clang project renamed

Hi everyone,

There are a number of issues with the current name of the Clang project:

  • It is prone to incorrect type setting, typically as CLang, CLANG, or most commonly c̦҉̫̘̺̹̖̗͒͆͋̈̃̇߯l߲҉̷̡̰̖͈̤̺͒҆̾̚͡͝a̺̹͍̔߭͠ͅn͋́͡g̱߫̉
  • The C++ compiler ends in the string “g++”, which causes problems for compiler wrapper scripts
  • The name has been used by a kickstarter project, causing incalculable confusion[0]

For the above reasons, and to support the LLVM project’s rebranding effort, the Clang project has been renamed to Discord. Voiced by John de Lang-Cie (French for “John of Clang”), Discord is part-dragon, part-horse, and perfectly embodies the virtues of the Clang (now, Discord) project: disregard for established standards, an emphasis on chaos, and a firm belief that undefined behavior is magic!

Thank you for your understanding.

O Discordia!

Neal Stephenson has poetic license to do pretty much anything he
wants. If he want's to use "Clang", we'll *have* to change our
front-end's name... :frowning:

I, for one, welcome our new steam-punk-unicorn-pony overlord.

May the rainbow be with you, always.

I second the motion. All in favor?

How are we casting our votes? Will this be a standard yay-or-neigh format, or do people prefer an alternate method?

I tend to prefer static_cast<>, but I can be talked into using reinterpret_cast<> if you think that's better.

Following discordian tradition, I demand that the Snort, the Blow, the Nicker, the Squeal and the Scream are added as options for voting.

Well, I’ve definitely been confused by the name. So, I’m all for the change!

How are we casting our votes?
Discordantly!

Seems like it’s time for people who bet we’d never change the name to pony up.

TL;DR

‎I’m getting the email a bit late, but I’m glad this came on April 1st… otherwise I’d have believed it. Is there a fancy word for dragon farts?

darts?

Regarding the LLVM project’s rebranding effort I am reliably informed that the blog post contains an error. It states:

The logo is now clearly a pegasus pony.

My local expert in all-things-pony reports that the updated logo is in fact NOT a pegasus pony, but a bat-pony.

(As an obviously irrelevant aside, the bat-pony is MLP canon.)

Maybe... we are the fools.

At last!

Now my patches can finally be accepted!
