how clang reads the source data

hi,i am a fresh in LLVM and Clang,I have a question to ask you:

If use this command line to run Clang:
clang helloworld.c -S -emit-llvm -o helloworld.ll
and how and where does clang read the “helloworld.c”?
where is the read data code?
