MLGO meeting March 8, 2024

The meeting is “on” tomorrow, the agenda (as discussed in Feb) is the leftover from the last meeting: getting feedback and ideas for a workshop at the next LLVM Dev Meeting.

Here is the usual link with details.

Thanks!

Summary of feedback (also captured in the doc linked above):

  • if lunch fails → we can order pizza! (find out early if that’ll be the case)

  • we’re ok with the split-format (quick preso, round table after)

  • for “part 1” (presentation):

    • ask people to send, if they want, a longer deck ahead of time. We can share that on discourse, audience can prepare ahead of time and ask questions, etc.
    • keep the model of a short presentation rather than time budget (and cap it at e.g. 10 min worst-case)
  • round-table session (part “2”):

    • would be good to have more structure next time. Have someone own/drive the round table discussion (that person can also send minutes after)
    • groups over (e.g. 5) are hard to track → encourage smaller groups or split groups even if they have same topic
    • explicit moderator and note taker. should be different people.
    • we should point out to roundtable “owners” that main conference track round tables are schedulable “on the spot”, it’s not necessarily obvious, also helps if as workshop organizers we tell people where exactly that happens (which room / how, i.e. write topic where, etc). Basically facilitate people continue the discussions after the main workshop event
  • virtual calls: things didn’t go that well, we need professional setup or else not do it. group chats after for instance don’t work for instance.

  • announce early we’re looking for speakers, and keep the “if you want it, do it, just tell us” format under the assumption that there aren’t that many talks. We’ll deal with “too many talks” when we get to that problem (i.e. we do this like we have so far)
