This is not the case. If you have multiple emails associated with your Github account and the option to keep your email private disabled, Github will let you choose the email that you want in the author field of the squashed commit in main. I’m not sure how it works with single email accounts (maybe just chooses that email automatically?). This is the recommended setup as we’re trying to avoid commits in tree with the noreply email addresses ("Hidden emails" on GitHub: should we do something about it?).
