LLVM 21.x Release Information and branching

Hi!

It’s that time of the year when a new release is drawing closer.

Branching for LLVM 21.x will happen the 15th of July in ~3 weeks.

This branching date comes 2 weeks earlier than previous releases according to the updated release schedule that was discussed in RFCs earlier this month. See [Docs] Incorporate the recent discussed changes to release process by tru · Pull Request #145285 · llvm/llvm-project · GitHub for relevant links, changes and discussions. Since the date has moved up we will relax what patches we take until RC2 in order to give developers time to finish or cut features.

Maintainers should start revising the release notes and consider if there are features that should be cut or finished before branching.

You can use the LLVM 21.x Release milestone to track issues that needs to be addressed before the release.

Have a great summer!

Wouldn’t 2 weeks early be July 8th (which is the 2nd Tuesday in July).

Yes you are correct, but I am unavailable that week unfortunately.
