LLVM Foundation Strategic Planning - Invitation to participate

The LLVM Foundation would like to invite all LLVM community members to participate in our strategic planning for our programs and organization for the next 3-5 years.

The LLVM Foundation is a nonprofit organization that supports the LLVM Project. Our mission is as follows:

The LLVM Foundation’s mission is to support education and advancement of the field of compilers and tools through educational events, grants and scholarships, increasing diversity within the field of compilers, tools, and the LLVM project, and directly supporting the LLVM Project community and infrastructure.

We support the LLVM community by helping it to grow, foster community interactions, work to keep LLVM development productive through infrastructure, and work to ensure the long term health of the LLVM project.

To accomplish our mission, the LLVM Foundation has established 4 main programs:

  1. Educational Outreach: Provides educational materials, mentorship, and events related to the LLVM Project, compiler technology, and related tools. This includes events such as the LLVM Developers’ Meeting.
  2. Diversity & Inclusion: Aims to increase participation from a diverse set of individuals to the LLVM Project and the field of compilers and tools, remove barriers and create an inclusive environment for all, and to work with other open source organizations who share common goals.
  3. Scholarships & Grants: Provides support for student presenter travel to the LLVM Developers’ Meetings and other compiler related conferences.
  4. Community Infrastructure & Health: To provide and support project infrastructure and policies that ensure the health and longevity of the LLVM project.

Additionally, we will have meetings on the goals and organization of the LLVM Foundation over the next 3-5 years.

We would like to have more community involvement in our plans for the next 3-5 years and invite any and all community members to participate. We will have 2 virtual meetings per program led by a subgroup of LLVM Foundation Board Members. These will be held at different times to try to meet the various time zone needs of attendees. Here is the proposed schedule:

Feb 27 & 28 - Scholarships & Grants

March 6 & 7 - Diversity & Inclusion

March 20 & 21 - Community Health and Infrastructure

March 28 & 29 - Educational Outreach

April 3 & 4 - LLVM Foundation Organization & Goals

Meeting details will be posted in the LLVM Foundation category on the Discourse Forums. We anticipate starting times of the meetings at 8:30am or 12:00pm PST.

This is a great way for the LLVM community to have more involvement in the direction of the LLVM Foundation and our programs and we hope you can attend a meeting or two. However, if you can not attend, we plan to offer some offline forms to provide your input as well. More details to come.

If you have questions, I invite you to post on the LLVM Foundation category on discourse.
