Note : We plan to take a decision on this topic at the next General Call (24 Sep).
This poll is to discuss the future of the Flang Technical Call, which we currently hold every two weeks on Mondays. I’ve been moderating the call since taking over from @jdoerfert, but due to changes in my responsibilities, I won’t be able to continue in this role in the near future.
We have a few possible options going forward, listed below with some context for each:
1. Continue with a new moderator
The technical call has been a good venue to discuss Flang’s technical aspects. Although Flang is no longer experimental, active development continues. A dedicated call still provides value for focused discussions. If you vote for this option, please also consider volunteering as the new moderator.
2. Continue with rotating moderators
Same benefits as above, but without relying on a single moderator. Moderation could rotate among representatives from different organizations. This approach ensures fairness in participation and in topic selection.
3. Merge with the General Call
Many topics covered in the Technical Call overlap with the General Call. Merging would simplify participation — developers and community members would only need to attend one call instead of two.
4. Terminate the Technical Call
The Fortran portion of Flang is now fairly mature. Other areas of development are either handled in existing calls (e.g. OpenMP) or within single organizations. In this case, the Technical Call may no longer be necessary.
