Now that we have a new policy around maintaining the project, I’d like to ask the members of the Clang community: would you like to volunteer to be a maintainer for anything in Clang?
As a reminder, maintainers are volunteering to take on any of the following shared responsibilities within an area of a project:
- ensure that commits receive high-quality review, either by the maintainer or by someone else,
- help to confirm and comment on issues,
- mediate code review disagreements through collaboration with other maintainers (and other reviewers) to come to a consensus on how best to proceed with disputed changes,
- actively engage with relevant RFCs,
- aid release managers with backporting and other release-related activities,
- be a point of contact for contributors who need help (answering questions on Discord/Discourse/IRC or holding office hours).
You don’t have to do everything, it’s a “do what you can” kind of volunteering role. However, there is an expectation that you’re able to do at least some of these activities consistently for an extended period of time (months). There’s no pressure to volunteer in these roles forever; maintainers can come and go quite easily with no downside to stepping away as needed.
If this is of interest to you or if you think you know someone who would be good for such a role, please file a new PR along these lines nominating yourself or someone else, and add me as a reviewer. (If you nominate someone else, please also add them as a reviewer because they need to explicitly agree by accepting the PR.) If you have questions or want to discuss the role further, you can either leave comments here or drop me a line privately and I’m happy to chat with you about it.
