There has been a recent increase in spam in llvm/llvm-project issues and pull requests. If you see something that is obviously spam please report it to GitHub using the “Report content” option and then delete the comment:
GitHub is very good about responding to spam and deleting accounts and is more efficient at blocking multiple accounts originating from the same source. LLVM admins can block users, but this is not always effective as some spammers keep creating new accounts. If you have any questions or want to report spam, please post on the Project Infrastructure channel in Discord.
Looks like GitHub support is not very fast in response to such reports last several days. May be LLVM admin rights should be given to more users? Or dedicated permission to block user and delete issues should be created and given to users (like commit and triage permissions)?
By the word, I created spam label, LLVM admins could delete spam issues more easily.
Due to the large number of spam reports, I’ve turned on interaction limits for the next 24 hours so that newly created accounts can no longer create or comment on issues. We’ll see if this helps.
Unfortunately, reporting someone to Github is also a lot of work for the reporter - I have to justify the report (even though it seems completely obvious in the case of the spam of the last days) and then I have to solve some picture puzzle. I will maybe do that once per spamming user, but it’s too much work to do it for every issue they create (which would be the ideal case).
I also can’t report several issues as spam in bulk. I can close them in bulk though.
I have just had a spammer reply to an issue I opened with “maybe this helps (and a link to an obvious virus zip) ”. Literally seconds after opening the issue.
Thanks for doing this! I am also routinely reporting such spam users as much as I can, but I’d hope that more reports – the better. Indeed the response turnaround time increased a lot. It used to be maybe couple of hours, today it is days if not weeks…
